Children's Safety Online
Children love the internet. They can do their homework, chat to their friends, find out about their favourite bands and make new friends. Online communities are increasingly popular with children of all ages, who are naive about their safety. Parents are worried that their child’s presence online attracts suspect attention but it is often impractical to watch their child’s movements online. Reliable monitoring and protection systems designed specifically for this area is in great demand – to provide parents with ‘peace of mind’ measures.
Based on statistics provided by the Federal Bureau of Investigation, there are an estimated one paedophiles using the Internet. These predators can be found surfing the internet, chatting in a chatroom, ‘grooming’ children over Instant Messenger services – pretending to be children themselves in an attempt to build friendships with the unsuspecting youths.
Chat-Room Monitoring
The requirement for chat-room monitoring is paramount, due to press reports highlighting the dangers of these online environments. The National Crime Squad in the UK collaborates with the FBI in the US and officers in Australia to keep tabs 24 hours a day on chat room conversations and intervene if necessary, according to a report by the BBC.
