Introduction
Production Studios tend to use a range of media software for their editing programs which generally only perform on single core processors in a single threaded mode. Typically these programs are not designed to run on multi core processors and, as a result, trans-coding performance can be slow and insufficient for today’s file size requirements. This can dramatically impact on work flow patterns and overall productivity.
Fortium’s file process management software greatly enhances the speed that files are trans-coded from one file format to another. By using proprietary memory process management techniques our software creates the ability to manage the trans-coding of media files by spreading the encoding and decoding processes across multiple processors, memories and networks.
If an HD file is being trans-coded using a multi core processor to another file format it may typically only make use of a single processor or, in the event that it does use multiple cores, the quality of the file may be comprised without the correct processor management system.
Managing Multi Processors
Our management software is designed to split the process almost equally by the number of processors made available to it. For example if an HD file normally took 1 hour to trans-code over one core, with Fortium’s file acceleration software it could take just 16 minutes to process over 4 cores. Furthermore the number of cores it can process the file through is not limited to 8 or 16 cores, our software program can process the file over as many cores as are available on the system.
Codecs
Fortium’s file acceleration software is Codec agnostic and works with all the major Codecs and will therefore operate with any of the popular trans-code engines.
Quality
Quality in the trans-coding process is paramount and any degradation caused is likely to be unacceptable. Other than the effect of the Codec itself, Fortium’s file acceleration software maintains the complete integrity of the original file. There are no issues to do with artefacts and there are no memory sub processing problems.
Speed
Operating at ‘Line Speed’ content ingestion can be increased faster than real time. The time to trans-code a file will be increased proportionately by the unlimited number of processors that can be made available to it.
