What is RSS and Atom?
RSS (Really Simple Syndication) and Atom Syndication Format are used to syndicate (subscribe) to a website feed, blog or almost any media content online (not just articles, it may be music, video or almost any digital media).
By subscribing to an RSS or Atom feed, you may keep up to date with the latest information delivered directly to you, as opposed to visiting many websites searching for information you require.
It's common to find web feeds on major Web sites, as well as many smaller ones. Some websites offer only RSS or only Atom feeds, ICA Filter offers both RSS and Atom feeds for convenience.
How to start using RSS or Atom feeds?
To subscribe to RSS or Atom feeds you require a newsreader, newsreaders are available in many different versions and across all platforms. Some browsers such as Internet Explorer 7, Opera, Firefox, Safari RSS and Web Browser for S60 are moving toward integrated newsreaders, some newsreaders are desktop applications known as feed readers or aggregators and some are browser based allowing you to view RSS or Atom feeds on any computer.
Once you have chosen a newsreader, all that remains is deciding which RSS or Atom feeds you wish to subscribe to. To un-subscribe, follow the instructions in your chosen newsreader.
