Introduction
Fortium’s latest development for the detection of SPAM and unsuitable image content is Similis. Using large output sources such as existing databases and content-sharing web based utilities, Similis is able to accurately identify images which have similar content and characteristics.
The integration of Similis into security applications provides development partners with ‘added value’ systems, offering customers protection against illegal, illicit, offensive or unwanted content on email, the internet in the information security market sector.
This new technology provides developers and partners with the ability to identify similar images in a large collection. By applying a series of algorithms, Similis is able to match one image to other images with similar content or subject. Image copies with up to 50% change from the original image can be identified as being alike in order of priority.
The Similis user-generated database is smaller compared to similar datatracking systems as only one image of a set needs to be catalogued, thus saving time and resources. Similis is suited to use in strengthening current systems which help monitor and control users contributions to shared content websites, and assist in the removal of similar problem content.
Copyright Control
The identification of copyrighted content, in video or image files, appearing on websites without authorisation presents an increasingly difficult issue to manage effectively. Using Similis’ file matching capabilities, Partners could develop applications which seek copyright infringement. Integrating Similis into security monitoring applications offers content owners protection against the unauthorised use of their content.
The advantage of the Similis technology over existing solutions in the market place is that the fingerprint technique provides much wider matching capabilities. We also provide high speed video frame, file retrieval and analysis scanning tools to search and retrieve the content. Similis is complementary to both Harvester, Fortium’s media collection and categorising platform application, and to third-party integration.
